Diane Kim

VIOLIN

Diane Dahyeon Kim is a Korean-Canadian violinist actively performing in Toronto, Canada. She has performed in many venues such as Koerner Hall, Roy Thompson Hall, Toronto Centre for the Arts, Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, and Seoul Arts Center in South Korea.

Diane has been teaching for 8 years privately and worked at Thorncrest Music Academy where she taught beginner and intermediate piano and any levels of the violin. It is her joy and passion to bring music together!

Previous summer, she participated in the online academy at the Encore Chamber Music, masterclass program at the Orford Musique academy with scholarships, studying under William Van Der Sloot and was a member of the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival where she served asan Associate Concertmaster in Germany. Diane made her debut with Cathedral Bluffs Symphony Orchestra performing the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto first movement under the baton of Norman Reintamm. She was also invited to perform arecital for Guelph Connections Concert Series with pianist, Stephen Xie.

Diane was a student at the Phil and Eli Taylor Academy in Royal Conservatory of Music where she studied with Marie Berard. She was also a member of the Toronto Symphony Youth Orchestra for 4 years where she served as Assistant Concertmaster and Co-Concertmaster. Shewas also invited to the Millennium symphony where she performed at the Seoul Arts Centre.

Diane has received numerous awards and scholarships from Kiwanis Music Festival, OntarioMusic Festival, North York Music Festival, TSYO honour award and Don Banks Music Awardin Canada. She was also one of the recipients of the Etobicoke Philharmonic Orchestra scholarship 2018/19 season. She attended Music at Port Milford, Curtis Summerfest, Korean Chamber Orchestra Summer Music Festival, Koreana Chamber Music Society Summer Music Camp and Campus Musica Udine in Italy. She has been performed in multiple masterclasses with Baiba Skride, Mauricio Fuks, Jinjoo Cho, Almita Vamos and Miriam Fried. She was also nominated to perform with her Quartet in a masterclass for Kronos Quartet with the contemporary piece “Satellites” by Garth Knox.

Recently, Diane graduated as a Bachelor of Music program student at the Glenn Gould School studying under Paul Kantor and Barry Shiffman. She was born in Seoul, South Korea and immigrated to Canada nine years ago.
