Christian Masucci Facchini
Voice, Piano, Violin

Born and raised in Toronto, Canadian countertenor Christian Masucci Facchini has been praised as a “marvel” with a “rich, full voice” and “impressive stage presence” (Stage Door, Opera Canada). A rising artist in the fields of historical and contemporary vocal performance, Christian is known for his expressive musicality and compelling stagecraft. An alumnus of St.Michael’s Choir School, York University (BFA Honours), and The Glenn Gould School at The Royal Conservatory of Music (Artist Diploma in Opera), he is currently completing a Master’s degree in Historical Performance at the University of Toronto.
Christian’s versatility shines through his opera roles, which span both baroque and contemporary repertoires. He has portrayed Rinaldo in Handel’s Rinaldo, Cupid in Blow’s Venus and Adonis, the Refugee in Jonathan Dove’s Flight, and Henry Ford in Abigail Richardson-Schulte’s The Perfect Screw. His ability to navigate the stylistic and vocal demands of these contrasting periods demonstrates a deep understanding of historical performance practice as well as a strong command of modern vocal technique and dramatic interpretation.
Christian’s musical foundation began in early childhood. He started playing violin at the age of three and piano at the age of six, later receiving his RCM Grade 8 piano certificate. This instrumental training laid the groundwork for his lifelong passion for music and has supported his development as a well-rounded performer. In addition to his performance career, Christian has taught privately for many years, offering instruction in violin, piano, and voice. His dedication to teaching reflects his belief in nurturing musicianship at every level and in every age. Internationally, Christian has performed with the acclaimed baroque ensemble Les Arts Florissants in Thiré, France, and was one of only twenty-four singers worldwide invited to compete in the Jette Parker Young Artists Programme Competition at the Royal Opera House in London.
In the 2023–2024 season, he was awarded the prestigious Rebanks Family Fellowship and International Residency at the Royal Conservatory of Music (Toronto), serving as an outreach concert recitalist, and collaborating on recordings with CBC Radio and Riddle Films. That same year, he appeared as an alto lead in Bach chorales, French baroque ensemble repertoire, and Italian madrigals at the Tafelmusik Baroque Summer Festival under Ivars Taurins. He also reprised the role of Cupid in Venus and Adonis in a production directed by Opera Atelier’s Marshall Pynkoski. Christian’s recent European engagements include a featured artist residency at the SienAgosto Music Festival in Siena, Italy, where he performed under the guidance of celebrated British countertenor Michael Chance.
Competition accolades include Semi-Finalist in the 2024 Oratorio Society of New York Competition, Encouragement Award winner in the 2025 Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition, and Third Prize in the 2025 Macina Competition presented by Toronto City Opera. Currently seeking representation and performance opportunities abroad, particularly in Europe, Christian is passionate about bridging early and contemporary music through the unique voice of the countertenor.
